Meet Our Featured Roaster: Swerl Coffee Roasters, Sweden

ABOUT SWERL

Swerl was founded in 2019 by Beatriz, a sommelier, and Daniel, an aircraft technician. The story of Swerl began unexpectedly during their travels in New Zealand, where they discovered the world of specialty coffee. Despite having no formal background in coffee, their newfound passion led them to establish Swerl from a 1972 Mercedes bus on the beaches of Falkenberg, Sweden, serving coffee from top Swedish roasters with a strong focus on quality and traceability.

The couple's journey took them to Lisbon, Portugal, in the winter of 2019/2020, where they worked with Buna and Nomad Coffee, gaining deeper knowledge of the craft. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced their return to Falkenberg. Despite these challenges, Swerl continued to operate as a summer-only rolling coffee bar, and by 2021, the dream of roasting their own coffee came to life with the purchase of a 15 kg Giesen roaster. Over the next year, Beatriz and Daniel honed their roasting techniques, setting the stage for the launch of their dedicated roastery.

As Swerl’s roasting side grew, they decided to close their coffee bars to focus exclusively on roasting, allowing them to expand further and refine their craft. With an eye toward future growth, Swerl is eagerly anticipating the arrival of a Probat P25 roaster, set to arrive in mid-2024, further elevating their roasting process.
